Year of the Rat

Celebrating the Wellington Chinese New Year festival has become a major cultural experience in Wellington's events calendar.

We’ve got all the action to embrace one of the world’s largest festivals, including our very successful Festival Day. This features a colourful Street Parade through Courtenay Place to Wellington Waterfront, a bustling Asian Market, and a stunning Cultural Entertainment showcase. Sin Nian @ Capital E marks the
start of 9 days of activities – a day for the kids and family. Followed by New Clothes for the New Year – an up-to-the-minute fashion and funky dance show that is based on a tradition of wearing new clothes to start the new year with a fresh start, thereby encouraging good luck for the coming year.
